What's included
A removal starts with a plan for where each piece will go. Trees with room around them are felled in sections; trees over a roof, pool or fence are climbed and rigged so limbs are lowered under control rather than dropped. The trunk is cut into rounds, the brush is chipped, and everything is hauled away unless you ask to keep the wood. We cut the stump as low as practical, and stump grinding can be added to the same job so you can sod or replant over the spot. Before we leave, the crew rakes out the work area and blows off the drive and walks. If a crane is needed for a tight lot, we tell you in the quote.
Signs a tree should come down
Not every ugly tree is a dangerous one, but some signs deserve attention. Mushrooms or conks at the base, bark peeling in sheets, a hollow sound when the trunk is tapped, and large dead sections in the crown all point to decay. A lean that has gotten worse, or soil heaving on the side opposite the lean, suggests the roots are letting go. Pines killed by beetles turn rust colored and shed needles fast, and they become brittle within months. Laurel oaks and water oaks in Leon County often decline hard after a few decades. And sometimes the tree is healthy but is lifting the driveway or shading out the lawn, and you simply want it gone.
How the job runs
Request a quote online and tell us which tree and what worries you. A crew lead visits, checks the tree, the access and anything beneath it, and sends a written quote to your Residely dashboard. Inside the Tallahassee city limits, removing certain protected trees may require a permit, and we will tell you if your tree is likely to need one before any work is scheduled. Once you approve the quote, the removal goes on the calendar and you can track it in your dashboard. On the day, we bring the saws, rigging, chipper and hauling equipment, protect the lawn and beds as much as the site allows, and clean up fully. Payment is due after the work is complete.
Questions about tree removal
- Do I need a permit for tree removal in Tallahassee?
- Sometimes. The City of Tallahassee and Leon County regulate the removal of certain larger or protected trees on residential lots, and the rules differ depending on the tree, its size and where you live. During the site visit we will tell you whether your tree is likely to need a permit and what that involves.
- Can you remove a tree that is close to my house or over the pool?
- Yes. Tight removals are rigged so each section is lowered on ropes instead of dropped. Pool screens, roofs and fences are protected, and in some cases a crane is the safest option. Any special equipment is spelled out in the quote so there are no surprises on the day.
- What happens to the stump and the wood?
- Standard removal cuts the stump low to the ground and hauls away all brush and trunk wood. If you want firewood, we can leave rounds stacked where you choose. Stump grinding is a separate line item you can add to the same visit so the area is ready for sod or new planting.
